About MRI
MRI images are produced by a magnetic field and radiowaves passed through the body. There are no known harmful effects from MRI.
Our state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Siemens Symphony and GE Signa HD units can perform the entire complement of body, musculoskeletal and neurological imaging. Common uses for MRI include investigation of neurological symptoms, bone and joint disease, abdomen and pelvis disease and blood vessel abnormalities.
What To Expect
The MRI unit is a large magnet and therefore you will be required to remove all metal and magnetic objects from your person before the exam. Please notify the technologist if you’ve ever ground or welded metal, have a cardiac pacemaker or have had any type of surgery. The magnet produces loud noises while running and you will be provided headphones to dampen the noise.
Preparation
No special preparation is needed although you may need to have an x-ray of your eyes if you’ve worked with metal grinders or welding in the past. If you suffer from claustrophobia, talk to your doctor about obtaining a mild sedative before coming for your exam.
